The Big Loop
An Overview of my Trip Back East.
I've had a lot of people ask me where I'm going. I know vacation stories are not interesting. Yet, mostly for family and a few curious friends I thought I would share my travel log.
The Goal
The goal is to ride my Harley back to Michigan to see family, then meet up with my HOG riding buddies at Sturgis.
Originally, I planned to see some national parks, then shoot across North Dakota (I've never been) and drop into Minneapolis, and eventually Milwaukee, the motherland of Harley-Davidson.
If you look at the map however, you see I'm doing something quite different. Why? Because a friend invited me to breakfast. That started a cascade of visits, and suddenly instead of heading from crowded park to crowded park, I found myself looking up addresses in Angel Fire New Mexico, then Denver Colorado, Des Moines Iowa, and on to Minneapolis.
Turns out I have family and friends all along the way.
Once I get to Milwaukee, I will begin to circumnavigate the lakes... one big loop through the upper peninsula, then zig across the state... and down the other size.
My final loop will be to jet back to South Dakota to meet friends in Rapid City.
I exceeded the number of destinations Google allows so I can't put the whole thing on one map. If I use just a few cities, then Google avoids the most interesting roads - those along the lakes.
I don't know how much of this I will do. A lot depends upon the weather, how good a time I make between locations, and of course people. There may be some fun things to do when I connect with family and friends.
For the first time in my life, I'm able to connect my wanderlust and sense of adventure with building connections. I'm excited about that.
